Tim drops the Price of the “El Bulli” Rioja!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes it is true…all too often wine prices rise and rise and the customer is left feeling somewhat ‘ripped off’, well here at the Bulls Head we have just introduced our updated wine list and have taken £3.00 off our wonderful Valenciso Rioja to make it an astonishing £29.00 a bottle!! The makers of this fine wine produce only one wine per harvest, always Reserva, 100% Tempranillo, aged in new French oak with the great name of Valenciso.

We invite you all….our ‘local and proud’ customers to enjoy the Vintage of 2002!!! Bear in mind that this is the only Red served by the Glass in ‘El BULLI’ which many describe as the best Restaurant in the world!!!!

Valenciso 2002 has aged 12 months in French oak barriques. The nose has wonderfully perfumed notes of wood smoke, blackberry, cedar and pencil lead ( Yep pencil lead!!!) Complex and tasty, very well balanced, the wine finishes long with an enveloping sensation of aromatic volume!!! Perfect with our ‘now legendary’ Steak and Ale Pie or our forthcoming Duck Leg dish.

A wine that has also come down in price is the Sancerre now at £27.00.

The Barolo has now disappeared and is replaced by a great Valpolicella Classico ‘Ripasso’ at £4.00 less expensive!!

Our customers have also demanded a Gavi Di Gavi!!! This now hits our list and we are delighted to have found a Gavi Di Gavi La Battistina Nuovo Quadro at only £20.00 for you all to enjoy with either of our wonderful Seafood food Plates.

The Bulls Head is a place to enjoy wine….be puzzled by choice!!

3p Club Update

Shane is taking his club the ‘Goodfellas’ seriously and has already (for the time been at least gone into an early lead with his alternative car club!!!

Tim is pushing for Porsches everywhere to show their metal outside the Bulls Head and join the 3p club!!!

Shane at first thought it was all about ‘bums on seats’ as they say, so a Double Decker bus became his first member!!!

Shane looks a natural ‘conductor’ to me!!”

Tim spots a rare White Merlot

‘Well as promised Tim is back with a merlot!! Having driven around Tim came across the ‘Petit Cellar’ of Son Prim close to the town of Sencelles in Mallorca. Tim having found Prim knew the ‘proper’ thing to do was venture in and taste the merlot for which they are famous.

Not only did he find a typically full bodied robust merlot he also discovered a rare wine indeed…. A ‘Blanc de Merlot’….. yes a WHITE merlot where the grape is pressed quickly and smoothly in order to avoid contact with the skin/peels of the grapes in turn to avoid redness. One has to say there is a tiny pinkness to this wine but at 14.5% ABV it is ‘full on’ in its fruit aromas of melon and apricots. The label as you can see has the symbol of a ‘white’ blackbird to signify the rarity of a ‘white’ merlot. This was a great find and again really underlines the forward thinking and the quality of these Mallorcan vineyards.

So we look forward to Tims return with a bottle or two of the white merlot and of course the red version too!!!

Talking of reds The Bulls Head has a wonderful Valenciso Rioja Reserva by the bottle which is, at £32.00 for the bottle, a special occasion red….bear in mind however this is the wine that ‘El Bulli’ (the best restaurant in the world) serve by the glass as their house red!! So as summer turns to autumn and a special occasion comes along remember the Bulls Head!!!

Tim when are you back with the wine!!

Tim treads the Grapes

Just when all Bulls Head loyal locals and customers (and our brilliant Bulls Head team too of course) were getting used to the pub without Tim or Mary around this photo has arrived of our Tim up to his old tricks of searching out great vineyards to ship one or two bottles back to Cheshire and of course to the Bulls Head.

Tim is a fan of Spanish wine and our current ‘Toro’ trio a red, white verdejo and a full on rose are proving to be great favourites with our wine drinkers as is our Vina Albina Rioja Blanco our current ‘shipped in’ wine (not on our list) from sunny Spain.

Where is Tim now I here you ask….? well in the Bodegas Ca’n Vidalet near Pollenca in Mallorca checking the quality before bringing back a rose or three for you to enjoy. More exploits will follow as a decent Merlot needs finding too. Mallorcan wine has really moved on in the last few years. So all wine lovers form an orderly queue at the Bulls Head Bar please and get a bottle of Verdejo now!!!

See you later Tim!!?

Mods on the Rocks!!

…..” not only did the Bulls Head have these cool ‘Mod’ scooters parked outside in the sunshine two Sundays ago but later that night we were visisted by a former member of the Jam…..coincidence or what???”

Our ‘Man of the Froth’ blesses our Mobberley Wobbly Ale!!!!

The Bulls Head is now a free house and we have five local Cheshire Ales on tap. Two of these beers, ‘Mobberley Wobbly Ale’ and ‘Bulls Head bitter’ are our own ales brewed by Weetwood at Tarporley. Both are the front runners in sales terms since we re-opened. Mobberley Wobbly Ale, so some say, has aphrodisiac qualities and for this reason we donate 10p to St Wilfrid’s Church in Mobberley (as a penance really) which has been graciously accepted by St.Wilfrid’s Reverend, Ian Blay, who himself, is a local ale enthusiast. In fact Ian is such a font of knowledge, the team at the Bulls Head have renamed him as a true ‘man of the froth’!!!

Pub, Porsche and Pint (3p) Club.

As a petrol head and enthusiastic Porsche fan it suddenly occurred to me when this wonderful car (see photo) parked outside our Bulls Head pub that I should form a special club here at the Bulls Head and the village of Mobberley and this will be known as the 3p Club.

This will stand for Pub, Porsche and Pint Club and to be a member this is what you have to do. A) you need to own a porsche or borrow one or hire one regularly B) Park your porsche as seen in the photo outside the Bulls Head C) Take a photo and then email the photo to me at our email address info@thebullsheadpub.co.uk with your name, address and contact number.

Bulls Head achieve Cask Marque in our first week after refurbishment!!!

We are delighted to announce that in our first week of trading The Bulls Head was awarded the Cask Marque for our real ale quality.

We are proud to announce also that we will be one of the very few Cheshire pubs to use local micro breweries within a 25 mile radius for all our 5 real ale pumps and therefore support the LocAle initiative run by Camra.

In our second week we were awarded 5 stars…..the top accollade….. by the local Council for our commitment to food safety and Hygiene…..jeez we have only been open 3 weeks and we had the Rose Queen celebration too!!!!

We just want to say a massive thank you to all our customers old and new for you support and feedback to the new Bulls Head….local and proud!!

The Bull’s Head

We are so sorry we have been so busy getting the Bulls Head ready that we haven’t been updating our customers with some photos!!! Here are some more from Thursday 27th May 2010 and we now can confirm we will open officially to the public on Saturday 29th at Midday.

We will be planning an evening when the dust has settled to thank our neighbours for putting up with all the noise, dust etc. People have blamed the volcanic ash for flights being cancelled at Manchester airport but I think it was our sandblasting!!! Anyway must be off there are still more things to buy.

See you all soon!!!

Final photos tonight!!
