Ben arrives as our new Landlord and brings a bit of summer with him!!!

Ben Redwood has started as new landlord of the Bulls Head following the retirement of former landlords Shane and Jenny!!
Ben has joined the team from Brunning and Price Pub Company having worked for them latterly at Sutton Hall in Macclesfied but mainly at the famous Harkers Arms in Chester!!! Ben fell in love with the Bulls Head on visiting and recognises what a great village pub it is.

Ben has great knowledge and experience in all things Ale, whisky and food!! He is also a strong team player and is looking forward to having friendly rivalry with Steve our landlord at the Cholmondeley Arms (a good friend of Bens).

Ben will also become ‘president’ of the Goodfellas Car Club and will rival owner Tim for members over the next year!!! Just as Ben arrived so too did the sunshine and with it our 2012 summer drinks selection featuring our very own Prosecco based ‘Mobberlini’s’ and Rose lemonade for Jugs with Gin to name but a few.

So cheer up your rainy day with a bit of sunshine in a glass as well as a warm Mobberley welcome to Ben.

Car Clubs Unite for Pageant of Power!!!!!

Members of the 3p and Goodfellas car clubs got together at the Bulls Head for fresh coffee and Cured Bacon baps before driving off in convoy to the Pageant of Power Car extravaganza at Cholmondely Castle close to our other pub the Cholmondeley Arms!!!

On route to the Pageant the drivers, who were made up of competition winners and enthusiasts, had to complete a treasure
hunt quiz based on landmarks on the journey towards Whitchurch on the A49!!! Andrew and his team came out triumphant and got a second Gin and Tonic for their troubles at the Cholmondeley Arms later in the day after the Pageant!! The Cholmondeley Arms boasts over 100 different gins!!!

The day stayed dry and was enjoyed by all we are still wandering where Bens team and Gregs team are!!?? Thank you for all the support from the car clubs and here’s to a summer of successful car events!!!!

One of the many G&T’s at the Chum

Big tent keeps everyone dry for Rose Queen!!!

What a shame the weather was so wet. The 90th Rose Queen celebration was a wet one to say the least but it certainly didn’t spoil the event or the enthusiasm of the former and present Rose Queens who assembled for this great anniversary!! Well done once again to all the organizers as well as everyone who turned out to support the event.

Working on long range weather forecasts we decided to put up two small marquees to ‘house’ our Organic Pig Roast, Barbecue, Outdoor bar and Ice Cream cart as well as many visitors from the rain. The Mobberley Wobbly Ale flowed as well as Tatton’s aptly named ‘White Queen’ Ale.

Pork and crackling Baps with Lloyds gorgeous apple sauce went down a storm (literally!!) and our Angie did a great job on barbecue with Rhug estate sausages and Locally made lamb burgers!!! Mr Softy himself….James, our deputy, here at the Bulls Head, sold a number of ice creams to excited children while Rachel and Helen held everything together!!!

Mary the owner with Sophie and Fliss (our other deputies) got everything ready while Tim and Lloyd carried the 90 kilogram pig from the prep kitchen to the roaster…boy was he heavy!!!!

The decision is to do the same every year following the feedback from all our customers!!! Let’s hope the sun shines a bit more next year!!!!

Birds and the Bees at the Bulls Head!!!

Here’s a picture of Rick our log man who is fortunately a beekeeper too!!! We asked Rick to pop down and help move a nest of Bumble bees that had set up home in one of our bird houses. The queen bee had settled in nicely and her clan were beginning to grow. So it was time to call on Rick and brother Paul to help us re-locate the bees around three miles away with the bird house having to move with them!!! Amazing what people will do for two pints of Mobberley Wobbly!!!

Rick and Paul supply all our logs and our log container as well as kindling and salt in the winter and can be found at www.caddishome.co.uk .

In terms of the birds…in our other bird box four baby blue tits were born and have now flown the nest safely just before the bird box fell from the fence in adverse weather and broke!!

So our big investment will be two new bird houses for the Bulls Head this summer!!!

Well we know we are the ‘home from home’ for many

Jubilant Jubilee here at the Bulls Head!!!

What a great day it was here on Jubilee Monday!! The team all worked like Trojans to get the pig roast and BBQ set up as well as the ales in the cellar and wine in the fridge ready for a very busy day!! It was a great Mobberley village day! The sun shone and the pig crackled! All was eaten within two hours!! No joke!! It was a great day enjoyed by all!! Thanks to all our customers for supporting the pub on this great anniversary and to our team for working so hard to make everything a success!!

the Smoooth old boys did there bit too….

Ale Trail enjoyed for the second year!!

ALE TRAIL BUS

Over forty people were entertained again for the annual ABN AMRO Ale trail as a thank you for hard work through the year.

Our six ale pumps reflected as always the ‘local hero’ microbrewers of Cheshire and the beers most enjoyed on the day were Cheshire Cat brewed by Weetwood and Whirly Bird brewed by Mobberley Fine Ales and of course Mobberley Wobbly Ale.

The mode of transport was the same as last year for the ale trail, an excellent old bus all the way from Halifax!! We have decided to make the bus an honorary member of the ‘Good Fellas’ car club…which makes it two buses so far!!

Tim beats Shane as ‘year two’ of the New Bulls Head is celebrated!!!

White 911

Tuesday 29th May 2012 marks the 2nd Anniversary of the new Bulls Head. How time has flown!!

Each year, Tim the Chairman of the 3p Car Club and Shane the ‘outgoing’ Chairman of the ‘Good Fellas’ Car Club compete to see who can gain the most car club members for their respective car clubs.

Well………… in year two of the new Bulls Head, Tim is victorious with 18 members gained (weirdly exactly the same as last year!!!) to Shanes 16 members!!!

Shane still has 43 members in total compared to Tim’s 36 members but remember Tim is purely a Porsche club.

Well done to Tim and bad luck to Shane.

£100 will go to Tim’s Charity the local Mobberley Church paid by Shane as he retires from the Bulls Head and the Club. A new ‘Chairman’ is being recruited as we write this………..so more news later!!

Goodfellas gets a mention on Zclub.net

Who needs a Porsche?

Went for a drive with the missus tonight, and stopped at a brilliant pub in Mobberley, Cheshire called the Bull’s Head. Superb cask ales – what more could you want?

Anyway, I noticed an unusual number of Porsches littered around outside. When I went in, a guy I have never met walked up to me and said: “Let me just tell you, you have got the finest car on the car park there – it doesn’t get better than that.” What a welcome!

It turns out there is a Porsche club meets there – the 3P club (stands for Pub, Porsche and Pint Club apparently), but the landlord decided to set up a rival car club for other marques called the Goodfellas Club – that excludes Porsches!

He told me all I had to do was take a picture of my 260Z outside the pub, email it to him and I would get a free mug and membership of the club – so I did it there and then from my phone (see attached picture).

If anyone is passing there, why not do the same? Everyone was very friendly, and the beer (and food) there is mega.

Whiskey Tasting Evening

AH!!!-THE-REDBREAST

A select group were invited to the Bulls Head on Thursday 3rdMay 2012 where Ed McAvoy the Brand Ambassador of Jameson’s Irish Whiskey was over from Ireland via London to present our first ‘Whiskey Tasting Evening’. Ed focused on such premium Whiskeys as Redbreast, Midletons and launched Jameson’s Select Reserve as well as looking at other Irish Whiskies from within the Jameson ‘family’. He did some comparisons between Scotch, American Bourbon whiskey and the Irish styles…really interesting. A big thanks to Philippa and Ed for hosting the evening.

Lloyd our head chef put on some little tasters of food that fitted the mood and his Irish Stew was inspired but the real winners were his little chocolate pieces with orange and Jameson’s Select Reserve (in fact they were that good everyone insisted they went on to the new menu) and the cheese selection with the Redbreast 12 year old was fantastic.

The evening was a way of saying thanks for loyal custom as we approached our second ‘birthday’ of the new Bulls Head!! It is our 200th Anniversary year too…. 1812-2012 so we will be planning different events through the year.

Anyone interested in our next whiskey evening let us know by emailing info@thebullsheadpub.co.uk .
