A wonderful sunny Village Fete!

Our luck held for another year and the sun shone down on the Bull’s Head’s Village Fete once again. As always, we had live music, a barbecue, our outdoor bar, the ever-popular dog show (won this year by a stunning Bernese Mountain Dog) judged by dog trainer Vic Barlow and sponsored by the amazing Ark Vets and Oscar dog food and the impressive bake off competition (see Roger on the left being awarded his prize by Rev. Ian Blay after scooping up the 1st place for both the savoury and sweet bakes!) This year we also had a hilarious and very competitive tug-of-war competition between the locals and the Bull’s Head team, won 2-0 by the locals! Thank you to everyone who made this fete another huge success-we hope to see you again next year!

Umbro celebrates its 95th Year.

The Global sports brand Umbro is celebrating 95 years as a sportswear manufacturer!

It all started in 1924 in Mobberley at the Bulls Head….yes the Humphrey Brothers ….Um from the first word and bro from the second…lived at the pub with their parents who were landlords at that time. The first stock was stored in a famous cupboard upstairs!

While walking in the Northern Quarter of Manchester Karen, our events manager, spotted this billboard celebrating Umbros historical roots. With the Bulls Head proudly featured in the centre!

The Umbro Team were at the Bulls Head last week to raise a glass to the 95th year. We are very proud of our association with the history of this iconic brand. Watch this space for more news happening locally regarding Umbro.

In the meantime thanks to Umbro for honouring the Bulls Head.

GOING FOR THE TREBLE!

We are very excited to announce that Cheshire Cat Pubs and Bars have been nominated for three very prestigious awards at the 2019 Casual Dining Awards, taking place in London on Wednesday 27th February. We feel very honoured to be nominated for two such special awards as ‘Employer of the Year’ and ‘Multi-Site Operator of the Year’ and are also very proud of our sister pub, the Cholmondeley Arms, for being nominated for ‘Pub of the Year’. Our owners, Tim Bird and Mary McLaughlin, are heading off to the Big Smoke as guests of our excellent wine suppliers, Boutinot, to attend the awards ceremony, and we will keep you posted on the results of our nominations.

Our ‘Twin’ Pub and the Bully celebrate their local Gins!

For many years now our owners Mary and Tim, when visiting Donegal in Ireland, have popped in to their other favourite pub……the Glen Bar, in the tiny village of Glen. Once named ‘Mary’s of the Glen’ after the famous owner and true raconteur by the same name. Sadly Mary passed away this year and Landlord Aengus with a little help from Glen Bar Restaurant owner Cormac came up with a Gin that celebrated the life of Mary and the 250th year of the famous Glen Bar.

The team from Glen flew over to see everyone at the Bully, and Barry, who hails from Dublin of course as well as Mary who is from Derry, both presented Aengus with a bottle of our most local gin the award winning ‘Spirit Of George’ Gin which is now distilled at the Big Hill Distillery at our sister pub the Church Inn in Mobberley.

It was a great night as the two teams exchanged Gins and a few drinks as well as enjoying a ‘Food Safari’ with starters in the Roebuck Inn, Mains in the Church Inn and puddings and cheese at the Bully.

Big thanks to Aengus for bringing the local Donegal Gin over and here’s to a few more great nights together!

A year on the Mobberley Rangers Footie team is going from strength to strength.

It seems like no more than a week ago that Steve approached our owner Tim with his brain wave of restoring Boys football to the village of Mobberley. Steve had a vision and he and his pals have done exactly what they set out to do and successfully restore boys footie to the village of Mobberley.

Tim didn’t hesitate in agreeing to pay for their kit and with other local firms became the proud sponsors of Mobberley Football Club. Mike Summerbee the famous former Man City footballer opened the club and from then it has gone from strength to strength.

The Bulls Head will always be proud to sponsor the shirts and with in the pub there are some great photos of the old team from back in the seventies and of course the new boys playing for Mobberley with pride!

The Teams play on Saturdays at the playing fields near Ilford’s in the village.

Halloween Bash 2018

It was an amazing Halloween bash, with the pub spectacularly decorated by the wonderful Steph. There was some ghostly goings on, as well as some live tunes by the Fantastic Dave and Howard our house band. With All the staff dressed up from an evil Joker, to the Zombie Queen, with probably the scariest of the All, Kieran as MR BLOBBY!!!!!

However it was not just the staff that got into the Halloween spirit of dressing up, with a record number of our amazing customers dressing up for a chance to win a £50 Cheshire Cat voucher. It was a close contest in the end with the Mexican Ghost beating the Headless Horseman to the prize.

This is an event that is growing every year, so much so, we can’t wait for next year’s Halloween scare fest.

Porsche Reclaim their Crown!!

The Bulls Head 2018 Treasure Hunt went off very well indeed. On a very breezy Saturday (13th October) 13 teams rocked up to have a go at, the now famous, Bulls Head car treasure hunt! The teams had to drive a route that took them to our sister pub the Three Greyhounds Inn via Ollerton and Toft and bring them back via Lower Peover and Knutsford. They had to collect 38 clues while driving carefully around the countryside and they also had to answer 30 very tough quiz questions too. The teams also had to collect five specific objects and also take five photos to bring back. The drive took everyone around two hours.

All the teams arrived back safely and this time round they were welcomed back at our Roebuck Inn to some complimentary nibbles while the papers were marked by Tim and Jess. Everyone made a donation and we raised £100 for St. Wilfrid’s Church here in the village of Mobberley.

In third place were the ‘What the Tuk’ team who did the whole treasure hunt in a tuk tuk!! Their friends ….the ‘Mother Tukkers’, the second tuk tuk on show, were indeed second but the winners this year were the ‘Collins Girls Plus Ant’ in their Porsche Cayman. Well done to them.

This is a third win for the Collins Girls having won the very first Bully Treasure Hunt way back in 2011 and reappearing to win it again in 2014….. now they are, with Ant, the victors again meaning that the Cup goes to the 3P (Porsche, Pub and Pint) Car Club who have regained the trophy back from the Good Fellows Car Club for the first time since 2015!

Thank you to everyone who took part and we look forward to seeing you all in 2019!
