Spanish and Mallorcan wines arrive

…..yes following Tim’s trip to Mallorca the first wine has officially been shipped in and it is an Autumn red Macia Batle Anada with a taste of fruity oak, toffee and butterscotch.

Then following a great meal in Palma Tim discovered a really good sauvignon from the Rueda region of Spain, Mocen Sauvignon Blanc 2008 has the essence of lemons and limes with a really refreshing aftertaste both bottles are retailing at £18.50 a bottle or £4.50 a glass.

Both wines are available this weekend and are worth every penny.

Please look out for our alternative Novello day on 5th November where we will bring in some new tastes from Italy.

Mobberley gets its very own bitter!!!

We are really proud to announce new micro-brewery ‘Mobberley Fine Ales’ has brewed its first beer.

‘Hedge Hopper’ is a golden 3.8% hoppy beer with a rich malty taste which defies its ABV.

We want to say a big well done to Phil and Ray (the brewers) for working so hard to bring Mobberley its first micro-brewery.

The bitter is now a regular on our bar.

So come on down and enjoy the second beer to carry our village name.

Warning Cows are now visiting The Bulls Head!!!

Well whatever next!!?? I have reported on some weird and wonderful happenings at the Bulls Head but on a very rainy wet Sunday we were visited by around 8 cows!!

Yes cows and we now believe they too had heard about the popularity of the Bulls Head and thought they would break free and give us a try…..after all every cow loves a Bull occasionally!!!

Shane and our locals managed to ensure the cows were welcomed and then given directions home rather swiftly.

We think they may have come to listen to our resident dynamic duo Stewart and Lawrie otherwise known as S’MOOO’TH!!! Hohoho!!!

The Cucumber arrives!!!!!

Tim is pictured accepting a rather well-endowed Organic Cucumber grown superbly by one of our most famous locals!!

Thank you on behalf of the Bulls Head team.

Naturally this local is modest but her efforts at nurturing such a specimen must be recognised.

A large Hendricks Gin and tonic was given as a well-deserved reward for this local persons marvellous growing techniques and all the team agreed it was exceptional in taste, colour and rigidity!!!

So well done….Shhhhhhhh You know who!!!??

Register Now for the Bulls Head Goodfellas Car club treasure hunt!!!

When ? Thursday 14th July 2011 at the Bulls Head by 7pm please.

Lord Ted (quiz master extraordinaire!!) and I have joined forces to create the Bulls Head’s local Mobberley Treasure hunt that will begin at 7pm travelling from the Bulls Head and should take no longer than an hour and a half to complete.

The Treasure hunt is not a timed race so therefore everyone will have plenty of time to get round and return to the Bulls Head safely for some nibbles and liquid refreshment!!

All we will ask is for a £5 entry fee per car which will go to the local Mobberley Church.

Drivers need to have a partner with them to help navigate and at times jump from the car (when not moving) to collect clues!! You are not restricted to one team member but your car may well restrict the number passengers you can take!!! The nibbles will be on the house as will be the first drink. Remember the top four teams will go forward to represent the Goodfellas Car Club against the 3p Club in a head to head Treasure hunt in August.

What you have to do???

Please email Shane at info@thebullsheadpub.co.uk to register. You need to register ASAP!!!!

If you know other car owners that want to join in then forward this to them and they can join the Goodfellas club on the night!!

The Maximum number of cars taking part is 10 so please be quick to register for what should be a fun evening!!

There will be a few surprises on the night I am sure so Ted and I look forward to seeing you all.

Kind Regards Shane

Spot the difference!!??

Yes it has finally happened!!! The sixth cask Ale pump has arrived!!!

So we move from our ‘Famous Five Pumps’ to our ‘Super Six Pumps’…..and the reason is that our cask ale sales are growing and because you, our ale enthusiasts,  loved our ‘winter ale’ ‘1812 Overture’ so much it has had to be made a permanent feature on our bar!!!!!!!

See here James a key member of the team and ale enthusiast himself proudly showing off the array of beer we now feature……. all from within a 30 mile radius!!

Where is our man of the froth?? A pint awaits you.

Hendricks Gin is waiting!!!!

Now you aren’t going to believe this story!!!

One of our favourite regulars here at the Bulls Head has sent this picture to the website.

Yes I know….it’s a cucumber!!! Well about three months ago we ran an excellent Hendricks Gin promotion whereby if you purchased the said Gin with tonic you had the choice of taking away a tiny plant pot with a cucumber seed or two or a tiny book on Victorian etiquette!! Well this visionary regular and Hendricks fan chose to go away with the miniature plant pot with the intention of growing her own cucumber!!! Naturally we all smiled and thought there’s no chance!!

Well we have all been proved wrong!! Not only has this prize cucumber been grown but there was one before it (already used in a gin or two and a salad!!!) and there are now at least three plants on the go. Apparently when this fine specimen is completely ready it will be presented back to the Bulls Head to use in the making of a Hendricks Gin and Tonic.

So we can now boast ‘home grown’ cucumber (as well as our mint, sage, coriander and rosemary that currently grow in pots around our ‘al fresco’ tables) thanks to our determined regular!!

We are sending this story to Hendricks themselves as I am sure they too will be very pleased with the determination shown to nuture a cucumber to be proud of!!!

Shane wins it!!! Goodfella’s Car club wins year one!!

After a great first year of the Bulls Head pub Shane, our quirky Landlord, has managed to ‘sign up’ more members for his ‘Goodfellas’ car club than ‘Porsche nut’ Tim with his superb 3p Club!!!

So as you can see from the photos there is a miserable looking Tim with a rather over enthusiastic Shane!!!

Tim, as the loser, is paying, as promised, £100 to Shanes selected Charity………….. C.A.F.T. which is the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust in Cheshire which looks out for children disadvantaged by illness, disability and/or Poverty.

Well done Shane but year two will show Tim coming back to thrash you!! So £100 is on the second year of the Bulls Heads car club memberships!!!

Tim successfully gained 18 Porsches in the 3p club and Shane managed 27 members from the Goodfellas club!! A clear 9 members more!!!

Lloyd delivers a piece of Cheshire to the Cheshire show!!!

Ever since Lloyd roasted the wild Boar for the Bulls Heads first birthday he has had a passion for the flavour and tenderness of this great meat.

So it was a ‘no brainer’ for Lloyd, when asked to cook at the Cheshire Show, he would theme it ‘Local from Cheshire BOARn and bred’.

Lloyd cooked pan roasted wild boar fillet on a bed of salad leaves with cherries soused in Cheshire cider as a robust starter. His main course was a wild boar loin chop pan fried then finished with a Bulls Head ale gravy, Cheshire asparagus and creamy ‘smoked’ mash. Both dishes were so delicious the audience ate the lot!!! James who works in Lloyds team back at the pub, acted as his commis chef on the day and both Lloyd and James did the Bulls Head proud!!! Frankly it was a privilege to be there supporting them.

Lloyds dessert was a Baked Alaska flan using Cheshire farm raspberry ripple ice cream!!!

Despite the indifferent weather the Cheshire show was brilliant and we even had chance to see some real Bulls along the way.

Lloyds recipes from the day will be on the web within the next week  so keep an eye out for them.

Cheshire Show wouldnt be the same without a Bulls Head

or two!!!

'Corries' Jim Macdonald warms up the audience prior to Lloyds cook off

Lloyd looks a little stressed before the big event!!!

Is the stove on Lloyd!!

James worked well as Lloyds commis

James gives the camera a smile!!!

You can smell the wild boar sizzling in the pan!!

Lloyd puts the finishing touches to his wild boar salad

Well done Lloyd you and James did us proud!!!
