The ‘Jingle Jumper’ Crew win!

Christmas Day 2019 at the Bulls Head was a record Christmas Day. We were joined by many wanting to become part of a select few! Bulls Head Christmas Jumper Champions! In previous years there have been some interesting winners..from a pet dog to a Mum, Dad and Baby, all in their proud jumpers! This year the Bulls Head looked like a log cabin as people raised a glass to a happy day. Then in walked the Jingle Jumper crew! A family got together and looked like a six a side festive team! (One was missing for the photo!) Steph and Tim chose them as winners for making such an effort! Thank you to everyone who turned out! Happy New Year! Well done the Jingles!

The 30 best winter pubs in Britain, for dog-lovers, walkers, foodies and more…..

Saturday 16th November 2019

The Bull’s Head, Mobberley, Cheshire

You feel the warmth as soon as you walk through the door of this pretty village pub. Candles glow on the tables, fires crackle, and the staff couldn’t be nicer. It holds a dog show every August and even has doggy beer behind the bar. Under a low-beamed ceiling, seven hand pumps dispense the finest local ales, including Bull’s Head Bitter and the inimitable Mobberley Wobbly.

Halloween Party at the Bully best yet!

It was another spooky night at the Bulls Head Halloween party! Steph dressed the pub to an award winning standard! People were phoning in the ask if they could bring the family down to see the pub dressed out to its horrible best! Steph was up half the night getting everything ready for our scary Saturday night party. House band Dave and Howard rocked up to play Halloween hits and many regulars turned up dressed beyond recognition! Dave and Pete our regular fancy dress kings decided to make the most of the foggy night and came as ‘Del and Rodney’ dressed as Batman and Robin at the wrong party! (I am sure everyone remembers that episode of ‘Only Fools and Horses?’) The winner was a rather sinister red haired clown, but a great effort was made by so many that we awarded the best ten, who all got a bottle of wine with the first prize of a £50 gift card and wine going to the Clown! Thank you to Steph once again for the amazing effort she made decking the pub so well. Thanks too, to the Bully team who all dressed up and looked amazing! But the biggest thanks is to all our customers that made such a great effort.

Here’s to next year when Halloween is actually on the Saturday next year!! See you here!

Richard does half a marathon before work!!!

RICH THE BULLS HEAD CHEF DE PARTIE

Bulls Head Chef De Partie…. Richard, decided he would enter the Manchester half Marathon on Sunday morning. Richard, who has run a few marathons in his time, actually did the half marathon in his best time and still managed to be in to work at the Bulls Head by 2pm!!

Richard worked in the kitchen with his medal in his pocket! Mary took the photo as Richard stood in our Rugby World Cup Marquee proudly showing off his medal before jogging back to the kitchen to carry on cooking!

Well done Richard you’re a hero!

Our First ‘Tour De Cat’ is a great success

On Sunday 13th October at 8.30am sharp, 18 cyclists braved the weather and took to the country roads that link our six wonderful pubs. They left from the Church Inn in Mobberley after registration.

With all the rain we did think we would have a poor showing, but to get 18 cyclists was amazing! In front of them was a one hundred mile challenge, taking them in to Staffordshire, to our Fitzherbert Arms pub via our Cholmondeley Arms and Three Greyhounds Inn before returning to Mobberley to pick off the Roebck Inn and Bulls Head. With the rain falling it was a gruelling, yet rewarding trip. Every rider had to collect a tiddlywink at each pub until they had the six. A Burger and a pint or three were waiting!!

Everyone completed the Cheshire Cat 6 other than three who missed out the Fitzherbert Arms, but did do the ‘Cheshire 5’ instead. The photos tell the story of how delighted everyone was to have risen to the challenge.

All the riders arrived back safely to the Bulls Head in Mobberley with the exception of three riders who had started at the Fitzherbert Arms and circled round to finish there rather than the Bulls Head.

All enjoyed a drink and a burger ‘on the house’ before they took part in (Cheshire Cat owner) Tim’s cycling ‘Tim-bola’ which raised a few more pounds for our company charity ‘Action Against Hunger’. On the day we raised £315.00 for the charity! Which is a really great result. Despite the weather, the cyclists loved it and most importantly loved our pubs!!

We would like to thank cycling enthusiast Sam, from our bank HSBC, for supporting the event and for supplying the British Cycling Jerseys and books as prizes in the ‘Tim-bola’.

Bigger thanks have to go to Adam from our wine merchants Boutinot. Adam is a very keen cyclist too and made all the arrangements for the event with the help of Tim and the pubs too. Adam also helped with the wines for the ‘Tim-bola’ and cycled the 100 miles for good measure!

This is the first time we have held the ‘Safari’ and it will now be an annual feature on the Cheshire Cat calendar! Thank you to all the cyclists who took part, including Rory who travelled from London to have a go!

See you all next year!

Mobberley Football Club, Umbro and The Bulls Head – success stories

MOBBERLEY Football Club are benefitting from Umbro’s ties to the village as they go from strength to strength.

They are looking ahead to a fresh season all kitted out in new gear – supported by the sportswear company and its birthplace, The Bulls Head, Mobberley. After a hiatus of nearly 40 years, MFC was re-established by a team of enthusiastic footballing parents in 2016.
Starting with just half a dozen children, MFC now boasts three full year groups of players from age five to 11 and have been playing matches in the Cheshire and Timperley District League since 2017.

A wonderful sunny Village Fete!

Our luck held for another year and the sun shone down on the Bull’s Head’s Village Fete once again. As always, we had live music, a barbecue, our outdoor bar, the ever-popular dog show (won this year by a stunning Bernese Mountain Dog) judged by dog trainer Vic Barlow and sponsored by the amazing Ark Vets and Oscar dog food and the impressive bake off competition (see Roger on the left being awarded his prize by Rev. Ian Blay after scooping up the 1st place for both the savoury and sweet bakes!) This year we also had a hilarious and very competitive tug-of-war competition between the locals and the Bull’s Head team, won 2-0 by the locals! Thank you to everyone who made this fete another huge success-we hope to see you again next year!

Umbro celebrates its 95th Year.

The Global sports brand Umbro is celebrating 95 years as a sportswear manufacturer!

It all started in 1924 in Mobberley at the Bulls Head….yes the Humphrey Brothers ….Um from the first word and bro from the second…lived at the pub with their parents who were landlords at that time. The first stock was stored in a famous cupboard upstairs!

While walking in the Northern Quarter of Manchester Karen, our events manager, spotted this billboard celebrating Umbros historical roots. With the Bulls Head proudly featured in the centre!

The Umbro Team were at the Bulls Head last week to raise a glass to the 95th year. We are very proud of our association with the history of this iconic brand. Watch this space for more news happening locally regarding Umbro.

In the meantime thanks to Umbro for honouring the Bulls Head.
