Lloyd delivers a piece of Cheshire to the Cheshire show!!!

Ever since Lloyd roasted the wild Boar for the Bulls Heads first birthday he has had a passion for the flavour and tenderness of this great meat.

So it was a ‘no brainer’ for Lloyd, when asked to cook at the Cheshire Show, he would theme it ‘Local from Cheshire BOARn and bred’.

Lloyd cooked pan roasted wild boar fillet on a bed of salad leaves with cherries soused in Cheshire cider as a robust starter. His main course was a wild boar loin chop pan fried then finished with a Bulls Head ale gravy, Cheshire asparagus and creamy ‘smoked’ mash. Both dishes were so delicious the audience ate the lot!!! James who works in Lloyds team back at the pub, acted as his commis chef on the day and both Lloyd and James did the Bulls Head proud!!! Frankly it was a privilege to be there supporting them.

Lloyds dessert was a Baked Alaska flan using Cheshire farm raspberry ripple ice cream!!!

Despite the indifferent weather the Cheshire show was brilliant and we even had chance to see some real Bulls along the way.

Lloyds recipes from the day will be on the web within the next week  so keep an eye out for them.

Cheshire Show wouldnt be the same without a Bulls Head

Goodfellas Car Club Treasure hunt in July!!!

Yes!!! At last!! I hear you say………….an event for the Goodfellas car club!!! Lord Ted (the master of quiz and trickery)and Shane (Bulls Head Landlord and Rod Stewart…oops sorry Jag nut) are arranging a local Goodfellas car club treasure hunt in July 2011. We need to gauge your interest in such an event. If you and your car and team are up for it then please simply email Shane at info@thebullsheadpub.com and confirm your interest. The plan is to hold this event in late July. We are holding an equivalent Porsche (3p Club) event in June.

Then the best four cars and their owners and crews from each treasure hunt will then go ‘head to head’ in the ‘Car Club Treasure Hunt Cup’ Goodfellas vs 3p!!! This, then, will become an annual event called The Bulls Head Car Club Challenge.

Porsche Club Treasure Hunt gets competitive!!!!!!!

Well finally the 3p Club got together for its annual ‘Treasure Hunt’ around the lanes of Mobberley and beyond. The club members and their ‘co-pilots’ arrived last Wednesday at 7pm prompt to be briefed by ‘Lord Ted’ our quiz master and Treasure Hunt co-ordinator!!! Ted gave the eight teams their ‘treasure maps’ and the questions and sent them on their way by around 7.30pm. It was a tough evening for the teams as the questions sent them through graveyards, pub gardens and to various local landmarks. While chasing about the teams had to answer questions on the 3 ‘P’s…………. Porsches, Pints (beer) and Pub (the Bulls Head).

The aim was to win of course, but also to be in the top four finishing positions as the top four will go ‘head to head’ with the top four of the Goodfellas Car Club, who’s Treasure hunt takes place on Thursday 14th July at 7pm.

The final will be sometime in August.

Naturally the treasure hunt was not a speed test and everyone arrived back to ‘base’ safely at around 9pm. Tim welcomed everyone with a drink and some pub nibbles as Ted and Tim calculated the scores.

The winners were the ‘Collins’ girls driving ‘Classy Boxter’ who won by a ‘country mile’ from the rest!!! An honourable second was scooped by the ‘Claudia’ team with the ‘Silva’ Team in third. The top four was completed by ‘the Roadster’ that were actually in a 4S because of the rather wet weather!!!

We must say a massive thanks to everyone who took part especially The Courtenay Team who travelled from Barnsley on the night, wow!!!

The ‘wooden spoon’ was presented to the ‘Baby Boxter’ team who were last seen on a country lane in Cheshire somewhere!!

The winners got an authentic model of a GT3 and a trophy is to be made up to keep at the pub until next year’s competition!!!

Thanks too to Lord Ted for all his hard work and petrol costs!!! £60 was collected for Mobberley Church on the night!!

Come on you Goodfellas…………bring it on !!!

A rather happy member of the winning 'Classy Boxter' Team...Lucy

Bulls Head 3p Car club treasure hunt!!!

When ? Wednesday 15th June 2011 at the Bulls Head by 7pm please.

Lord Ted (quiz master extraordinaire!!) and I have joined forces to create the Bulls Head’s local Mobberley Treasure hunt that will begin at 7pm travelling from the Bulls Head and should take no longer than an hour and a half to complete.

The Treasure hunt is not a timed race so therefore everyone will have plenty of time to get round and return to the Bulls Head safely for some nibbles and liquid refreshment!!

All we will ask is for a £5 entry fee per car which will go to the local Mobberley Church.

Drivers need to have a partner with them to help navigate and at times jump from the car (when not moving) to collect clues!! You are not restricted to one team member but your Porsche may well restrict the number passengers you can take!!! The nibbles will be on the house as will be the first drink. Remember the top four teams will go forward to represent the 3p Club against the Goodfellas Car Club in a head to head Treasure hunt in August.

What you have to do??? Please email Tim at info@thebullsheadpub.co.uk to register. You need to register ASAP!!!! If you know other Porsche owners that want to join in then forward this to them and they can join the 3p club on the night!!

The Maximum number of cars taking part is 10 so please be quick to register for what should be a fun evening!!

There will be a few surprises on the night I am sure so Ted and I look forward to seeing you all.

Kind Regards Tim

Ale Trail for ‘real pub’ hospitality!!

Corporate hospitality is returning to the village pub it would seem!! We were proud to serve over forty financiers and beer enthusiasts here at the Bulls Head last Thursday.

Our famous pub plates were enjoyed as well as the five ale’s on offer. Sampling glasses were filled in readiness in front of each pump as well as our usual descriptor boards so each enthusiast could do the ‘sight, smell and taste’ of each ale before ordering a pint of truly living beer.

1812 Overture Ale and Wobbly Mobberley Ale were the most popular. We forgive the gents that enjoyed ‘Carling Top’ instead but we will convert you one day!!

The party enjoyed their time with us and left on a truly spectacular bus which originated from Halifax, conductor and all.

Mobberley Rose Queen is a triumph!!!

Wow it is hard to believe that it is a year ago that we enjoyed our first Rose Queen celebration at the Bulls Head!!! This year the weather held up and the event was a real triumph for the organisers. Many burgers and Cheshire Smoke house sausages were sold from our barbecue as well as a few pints of Cheshire ales and as you can see the day was enjoyed by many!!! We feel privileged to be a part of the event and thank everyone for paying us a visit on the day!!

Sunday 29th May…….. the Bulls Head’s first Birthday!!!!

While the Bulls Head, we know, is 199 years old in 2011 the 29th May 2011 marked the first anniversary of the Bulls Head as we know it today….the quintessential English Village pub!!!!

Since the Bulls Heads complete transformation in May 2010 our pub has become a little gem in the eyes of so many!! We want to say a massive thank you to all our loyal customers (and you all know who you are!!) who have supported us in our quest to create a ‘real pub….. local and proud’ with fine Cheshire Ales and freshly prepared wholesome, flavoursome, English pub food.

Our team are our strength and we would like to say the biggest thank you to them….every one of them that ‘travel on this journey’ with us.

The first birthday was celebrated with vigour. The kitchen crew, Lloyd, Steve, James, Andy, Myles, Ollie and Sam helped to deliver an excellent Sunday lunch highlighted by Lloyds wild boar roast which was simply delicious and will be the theme of many a birthday to come!!

Shane won the car club competition with the most members and to celebrate set off a number of fireworks!!

The day was a great success and here’s to many more!!! Happy Birthday!!!!

Add to this some of the nostalgic aperitifs on offer at the Bulls Head such as Campari over ice topped with freshly squeezed orange juice and Pastis over ice with water or indeed organic lemonade and you know your summer days are best spent here with us!!

So come and visit us soon and enjoy our ‘sunshine in a glass’.
